Professor Kurshid Ahmed- Dr Rayes Musthafa

Professor Khurshid Ahmad has returned to Allah.
It is with profound sorrow that I share the news of the passing of Professor Khurshid Ahmad, the esteemed founder and former Chairman of the Islamic Foundation in Markfield, Leicester. His departure marks the end of an era for contemporary Islamic scholarship, thought, and activism.
Professor Khurshid Ahmad was a towering intellectual figure whose contributions to Islamic economics, finance, and modern Islamic movements have left an indelible mark. Often referred to as the father of Islamic economics, he authored and edited over 70 books in English and Urdu, many of which have been translated into various languages, reflecting his global influence .
His visionary leadership led to the establishment of the Islamic Foundation in 1973, which became a beacon for balanced Islamic thought rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah. His commitment to presenting Islam’s message of peace and prosperity for all humanity was unwavering.
I had the distinct honor of serving alongside him as a trustee of the Islamic Foundation. When he entrusted me with the chairmanship, I expressed my reservations about my capabilities. He firmly encouraged me, saying, “You can carry on taking the flag of the Foundation with the right vision and mission for which it was established.” His confidence in me was both humbling and motivating.
In every meeting, his emphasis was clear: the Foundation’s most valuable resource is its vision. He consistently reminded us that our mission is to contribute to the peace and prosperity of humanity by propagating the balanced narrative of Islam.
Listening to his lectures, whether in person or through media, I was always struck by his depth of knowledge and insightful reflections. Even in his later years, his advice during trustee meetings was sharp and encompassing, covering all facets of Islamic life.
He had a particular focus on family development. When I shared with him my initiatives on wisdom parenting based on the Qur’an and Sunnah, he was immensely supportive.
Despite his health challenges, he took the time to thoroughly review the first book in my wisdom parenting series, Responsible Fatherhood. He not only read every word with care but was kind enough to write a foreword for it, an honour I will always cherish.
After assuming the role of Chairman, I visited him at his home in Leicester with my wife. The guidance he offered that day remains etched in my heart.
On behalf of my family and the entire Islamic Foundation community, I extend our deepest condolences to Professor Khurshid Ahmad’s family and all who mourn his loss. May Allah grant him the highest place in Jannah and continue to bless us with the light of his teachings.
